Dr. Paul J. Quirk

Phil Lind Chair in US Politics and Representation, Department of Political Science, The University of British Columbia

Dr. Quirk is a distinguished scholar in American politics, writing on topics such as Congress, the presidency, presidential elections, and public opinion. His work has been published in the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of Politics. In addition to his contributions to edited volumes on American politics, Dr. Quirk’s latest book, The United States and Canada: How Two Democracies Differ, and Why It Matters (2019), offers a comparative analysis of democratic practices. His scholarship has been recognized with the Louis Brownlow Book Award from the National Academy of Public Administration and the Aaron Wildavsky Enduring Achievement Award from the Public Policy Section of the American Political Science Association. Dr. Quirk is also a frequent commentator in local media.

She is the author of the New York Times bestselling collection of essays Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants (2020 and 2022).
