Dr. Henry Yu

Dr. Yu’s research and teaching have been built around collaborations with local community organizations, civic institutions, and multiple levels of government guided by his passion for undoing the cultural and historical legacies of colonialism. He is one of the Founding Directors of the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC; the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation; and the Chinese Canadian Museum of BC. His co-curated exhibition A Seat at the Table: Chinese Immigration and British Columbia (2022) was recognized as outstanding by the Canadian Museums Association; and his most recent edited volume, Oral History, Education, and Justice: Possibilities and Limitations for Redress and Reconciliation (2021), won the Canadian Association of Foundations of Education Publication Award for Edited Book. Among his many honours, Dr. Yu was honoured with the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the 2015 Province of BC’s Multicultural Award in recognition of his research and community leadership.
