Ethics, Tactics, and Tensions in Journalism: Implications for Islamophobia

Ethics, Tactics, and Tensions in Journalism: Implications for Islamophobia

This talk with Dr. Shayna Plaut – Research Manager at the GRC – explores the findings of the Fixer’s study as well as its implications for the rise of Islamophobia in western media and policy.

This presentation is a post-colonial analysis involving 450 people in 85 countries, mapping the relationship between foreign journalists, local “fixers” (those who assist foreign reporters on assignments) and its effect on international news coverage. How do the imbalances of race, language and money shape “news” and policy in the Global North.
