Katarina Zimmer is a freelance science and environmental journalist splitting her time between the US and Germany. She’s currently a news correspondent for The Scientist, where she covers life science. Her reporting also appears in BBC Future, National Geographic, The Counter, Scientific American, and elsewhere. Her reporting interests range from life science and environmental issues to global supply chains and human rights. Prior to her career in journalism, she was developing a machine learning algorithm to identify bat species based on their echolocation calls, and today she uses original data analysis in her reporting wherever possible.
