The world is changing, so why is Greece still stuck in the past?

Historian Nikos Nicolaides explains how Greece’s obsession with its classical past relates to its rising xenophobia.

“Everything different, such as migrants, is perceived as a threat to the nation’s purity,” he explains.

In a country where far-right politicians like Nikolaos Michaloliakos believe that “Greeks are only those who are born Greeks,” filmmaker Papalopudous aims to explore the ways in which Greece connects its classical past with its intolerant present.
