Ivan Coyote Writer and Storyteller, Alice Munro Chair in Creativity, University of Western Ontario

Coyote performing spoken word has contributed to depicting the complexities of gender, sexuality, and identity in the representation of queerness in Canadian literature, collaborating with musicians to combine storytelling and music. They have written eleven books that have been awarded or shortlisted for literary awards. Their autobiography Tomboy Survival Guide (2016) won the Stonewall Book Award. Bow Grip (2006) was the winner of the 2007 ReLit Award for Best Fiction and the Stonewall Honor Book Award. In 2020, Coyote performed as part of CBC Gem ‘s Queer Pride Inside special. Their latest book, Care Of (2021) is a collection of communications Coyote has received from audience members and the responses they have written in return. Coyote has been a columnist for the gay magazines Xtra! and Xtra! West and a contributor to The Georgia Straight and CBC Radio.
