Speaker: Professor Robert Silverman, OC, Award winning Canadian pianist
Prof. Silverman’s career spans more than five decades. A former director of UBC’s School of music, he has played with the Chicago, Sydney and BBC (London) Symphonies, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as every major orchestra in Canada.
His comprehensive discography ranks among the largest of any Canadian pianist. Stereophile Magazine named Prof. Silverman’s album Chopin’s Last Waltz Best Recording of the Month (2017). His recording of Liszt’s piano music received a Grand Prix du Disque from the Liszt Society of Budapest (1977). Prof. Silverman is the inaugural recipient of the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford award (1998), and winner of a Juno award (1992) for his recording of Michael Conway Baker’s piano concerto.
