Andrea Zeelie-Varga has led communications and development activities for community building and social justice initiatives for over a decade. Before joining the GRC, she relaunched the internal research granting program for a regional health authority incorporating justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles. Previously, Andrea managed programming for the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, expanding the portfolio to include community initiatives for newcomer youth, Indigenous youth, and street-involved youth and securing the single largest donation in the organizationās history. Prior to that, she worked with community groups and a regional liquor board to develop a youth-friendly harm reduction toolkit; and as editor and contributor for Equal Treatment, the magazine of advocacy group the Treatment Action Campaign. Andrea holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science and African Studies from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Cape Town.
