Every day, around the globe, we are bombarded with news stories – everything from the latest scientific medical breakthroughs, to statistics on climate change, to images of violence and sound bytes from politicians and pundits. At times, these messages can be contradictory. A media outlet might report on statistics and the causes of childhood obesity while also reviewing the latest children’s video game to hit the market.  If the audience has difficulty in making sense of these contradictory messages, how do news outlets make sense of it all and help or hurt the way in which we consume the news?
