The 2024 Olympic Games are days away, and Paris is preparing to welcome the world. The Olympics are watched by millions, celebrated as peak human achievement, and recorded as history. But before athletes even arrive in the host city, an enormous urban transformation unfolds.
For the past year, we’ve been investigating what happens to host cities before, during, and after the games. We met with people who have been moved out to make way for the Olympics, activists who want an end to the games, and International Olympic Committee officials who champion the sporting event.
