Speaker: Professor Maxwell A. Cameron, Director, Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions, University of British Columbia

Dr. Cameron co-founded the Institute for Future Legislators at UBC, the world’s first school for politicians. His most recent book, Political Institutions and Practical Wisdom (2018), explores how to cultivate the character and judgment necessary to become a wise practitioner.

Dr. Cameron was the 2005 Canadian Bicentennial Professor at Yale University, and a 2011 Peter Wall Institute Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence. His books include Strong Constitutions: Social-Cognitive Origins of the Separation of Powers (2013); The Making of NAFTA: How the Deal Was Done (2000); To Walk Without Fear: The Global Movement to Ban Landmines (1998); and Democracy and Authoritarianism in Peru (1994). Dr. Cameron is a frequent contributor to the media on topics like democratic reform, proportional representation, and campaign finance.
