Jonathan Manthorpe

Mr. Jonathan Manthorpe — Award-winning journalist and International Affairs commentator

Mr. Manthorpe has been a foreign correspondent and international affairs columnist for then Southam News, the Toronto Star, and the Vancouver Sun. He is a founding columnist with Facts and Opinions, and contributor to iPolitics. In the early 1980s, Mr. Manthorpe was a special adviser in London to the government of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau on “patriation” of Canada’s constitution. He has been a member of the Canada-Japan Forum and has also undertaken special projects for the United Nations, the World Bank, the Asia Development Bank, the Canadian International Development Agency, and several non-government organizations. Mr. Manthorpe is the author of Restoring Democracy in an Age of Populists and Pestilence (2020), the acclaimed bestseller and award winner Claws of the Panda: Beijing’s Campaign of Influence and Intimidation in Canada (2019), and Forbidden Nation: A History of Taiwan (2008).
