Speaker: Professor Taylor Owen, Beaverbrook Chair in Media, Ethics and Communication, Max Bell School of Public Policy, McGill University

Dr. Owen is the founder of the international affairs media platform OpenCanada.org. Prior to his appointment at McGill, Dr. Owen was Assistant Professor of Digital Media and Global Affairs at UBC, and Research Director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University.

Dr. Owen received the 2016 Public Policy Forum Emerging Leader award. He is the author of Disruptive Power: The Crisis of the State in the Digital Age (2015), The World Won’t Wait: Why Canada Needs to Rethink its Foreign Policies (2015, with Roland Paris), Journalism After Snowden: The Future of the Free Press in the Surveillance State (2017, with Emily Bell) and The Platform Press: How Silicon Valley Re-engineered Journalism (2017, with Emily Bell).
